Las Vegas, NV (April 13-14, 2019) – GasGas North America Off-road teammates JT Baker and Jake Alvarez turned in solid performances in the Pro2 division at the WORCS series in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Baker cashing in on an impressive fourth place finish, while Alvarez turned in a solid ninth place finish.
The Las Vegas race was unique in that part of the course was indoors, in the Orleans Arena, while the rest of the course was held in the parking area and surrounding street. In fact, some of the race was held on asphalt, similar to a supermoto race.
Baker got off to a great start in the Pro2 final, exiting the first turn in second and finishing the opening lap in third place. The next few laps saw the top six riders battle back and forth, as Baker relinquished a spot in the shuffle to claim fourth at the finish.
With the finish, Baker moved up a spot in the Pro2 standings and now sits in third overall.
JT Baker: The track was gnarly. There was a rock pit and bottlenecks would form from riders trying to find a line, so you would just have to go into it and wing it. The top five or six were going back and forth; someone would pull a gap and then they would make a mistake in the rock pit and everyone would catch back up. I just tried to stay smooth and pick good lines and in the end it paid off with a fourth. I’m happy with fourth and I’m looking forward to improving on that.
Jake Alvarez knocked the wind out of himself when he crashed into a tractor tire during his 450 A qualifier, though he still transferred to the Pro2 final with a sixth-place finish. In the Pro2 final, Alvarez got off to a good start, running fourth during the early stages of the race. Midway into the race, however, Alvarez lost his momentum and dropped back to ninth at the finish.
Jake Alvarez: The bike was working great and I was running good after the start, but about halfway into the race I just started dropping off the pace. I was making small mistakes and it just didn’t go the way I wanted it to go.
